SILVIA RADAN
PHOTOGRAPHER

PERSONAL DATA:
I was born in Bucharest, Romania, in 1971. I graduated from The Higher School of Journalism (a private university in Bucharest). For four years, in early 90s, I worked as a journalist for Romania Libera, one of the major Romanian national daily newspapers.

In 1996 I completed the television course at the BBC School of Journalism, Bucharest. As a result, I was offered the news producer position at AMEROM TV.

In 1997 I left Romania and started teaching myself photography. I also attended short courses in photography at The London Institute (Central School) and The Drill Hall in London.

In 1998 I started working professionally as a freelance photographer, concentrating mainly on travel, documentary and photo reportage. My pictures have been published in Romanian, English and American magazines.

In 2001-2002 I worked as a staff photographer for Photonews Service agency. My pictures were published in many national daily newspapers and in the international media as well. I often had images bought by the public.

In 2002 I returned to my freelance carrier. Since then I have developed an ongoing partnership with the BBC - both News Online, the BBC's internet service, and the BBC Stills Library. I continue to specialize in travel, documentary and photo reportage photography.

Although I am familiar with digital equipment, I work in 35 mm, using professional Canon gear and Fuji transparency film.

I have both Romanian and UK citizenship.
